Hernan Cortes, the Castillion, and the other conquistadors make their way to Tenochtitlan, and eventually defeat Moctezuma II and the Aztecs.  Superior weaponry, strategic alliances with oppressed and rebellious Indigenous populations, and European diseases all contributed to Cortes's victory.  In 1520 alone, the first wave of smallpox killed 5–8 million people.

1521 - The First Black Rite
The ritual takes flight
Fifth Sun

After the death of Moctezuma II, the Castillion has a revelation while inside an Aztec pyramid.  Surrounded by magical codices, sacrificial blood, and thousands of human hearts the Castillion realizes he was chosen to unite the magical systems of his Gods and the Aztec Gods to create The Black Rite.

Cuitlahuac is now Aztec King, and the Castillion offers him a deal.  Death and destruction are coming for his city and his people, but he can save them both by making the ultimate sacrifice.  Chicahua agrees.

The Castillion publicly sacrifices Cuitlahuac and eats his heart, uniting the magical systems of the two worlds, and performing the Black Rite for the first time.

Death Needs Time...
...for what it kills to grow in
~500 Years of Being Reborn

The Castillion returns to Spain with something more valuable than gold... the promise of immortality.  He finds a wife, impregnates her, and transfers Cuitlahuac's (the Aztec King) consciousness to his first born.  The Castillion then implements his plan for world domination: offer the secret of The Black Rite to people of means in exchange for armies, gold, power, and influence.

As the centuries pass the Castillion and his son are reborn again and again.  He eventually becomes the all mighty power behind the scenes; an unknown force that influences everything.  He sits atop the pyramid, and those who are lucky enough to be privy to the secrets of The Black Rite become the ~300 reborns in Capstone.  These powerful families rule the world while using it like a chessboard to maintain control, settle disputes, and even play practical jokes on one another.

1988 - 1991 - School Days
The boredom of being the chosen one
Pillars

The current teenage incarnation of the Castillion has to go through the pain, anger and confusion of puberty while in an ancient academic institution called Pillars of the Archives.  He searches for the right girl he can shape into the next Wife/Host for his Father to be born from.

1991 - 1995 - Marriage
Can you hear the sound of the false alarm?
The Shrew

The Castillion finds the best candidate for the Wife/Host and plays her with his feigned weakness and victim mentality until he has her under his absolute control… or so he thinks.

1998 - At the Office
The orifice that murders softness
That Number

Now an adult married to Prina Mengele, we get a glimpse of what this Castillion does for a living and the worldly results of their absolute consolidation of power.  He is quite pleased with himself as he plays with the world like a toy.  Business as usual.

2001 - Sometimes I Trick Myself...
...Into believing it'll be fun again
Too Old For This

The Castillion feels the first sign of weakness and self-doubt creep in because of the re-run feeling of life.  No more power to be had, no more surprises or joy... just the complacency of absolute power.  Except there is a new player in the game that no reborn saw coming.  The Castillion gets over his self-doubt and sees a possibility to do what he loves best - destroy a worthy adversary.  Some strange Prussian Ice Witch is shaking things up when that should not be possible.  The game is on.

2003 - A Bubble Boiling in the East
Shall we go nuclear?
No Matter

The first blow from the mysterious Ice Witch catches the Castillion off- guard; she is actually succeeding in coming for him and his kind.  It's seems impossible, but he can't stop her regardless of his dominance.  It's like punching a wave of the tide... it doesn't mind, a full set waits beyond.  His fortune and power are crumbling right before his eyes.  The Castillion feels abandoned by the very Gods he has served.

2006 - The Copper Taste
Sick... sick... games
Best of the Worst

Absolute destruction of everything the Castillion has built.  He is as good as dead until his wife Prina Mengele slips off and kills her heretic twin sister Corvina.  Centuries ago the wives of the reborns formed the Coven of Shiva when they figured out what the reborn men were doing.  Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.  The wives have their own plan for global peace built on a more corrupt A.I. system (BLE) that forces everyone to coexist in a maternal commune where the nasty pest of free will is abandoned for a hive mentality.  Corvina Mengele refused to wait and went to war with the reborns, becoming infected with the same lust for power that the Castillions and their ilk have.  The "copper taste" is blood, and blood is the secret spiritual capital of the unseen realm.

2010 - Yes Ma'am
That's so wise my dear
Third Hand

The Castillion and his son now understand that they are considered a liability for the new found utopia being implemented by Prina Mengele and the Coven of Shiva.  It's a world bound to be even worse than the hellish, free will world that The Castillions and the reborns once controlled.  To survive, the Castillion must convince his wife to release them; let them live one last time on a well-guarded boat and die at sea.  They give their word, and word is bond.  Then again, the Castillions are the best of the worst.

2010 - 2012 - Changing of the Guard
Let's get on with the slicing and dicing
The Black Rite

The original Castillion has become a man and the age of The Black Rite is approaching.  The Castillions call upon the secret alliances they made centuries ago with the conquered Aztec civilizations.  They slaughter the guards on their ship and sail South where a secret army lays in wait, and the original Castillion will look for his next wife.  While crossing the sea the original Castillion takes control and performs The Black Rite, killing his father and consuming his heart.  Death needs time for what it kills to grow in.

2012 - 2026 - Reborn Philosophy
We all live again in utter terror
The Castillion

The Castillions are nothing more than the product of human nature and are ultimately the devil we know.  They know that we are all reborns stuck in this cycle of pain, suffering, and love that is the essence of life.  The only difference is that The Castillions retain their consciousness from one life to the next.
